We Dig Trenches!

Work at the new Hogar Escuela in Heredia reached a major milestone last week when twenty adults and youth from Christ Church, Charlotte, dug the footers for the building foundation. Heavy showers during the afternoon on Monday and Tuesday made for a couple of days of slippery conditions: we felt like we were in Flanders in World War I! Wednesday and Thursday were much drier, allowing us to work all day.

Today the local building crew begins fabricating rebar for strengthening the foundations, which in Costa Rica are larger and more reinforced to make buildings earthquake-resistant. Weather permitting, we ought to have the concrete poured by the first of August.

Here are some pictures which show our work and the outline of the school taking shape.
